Grenade of Color

Ari Hauben’s mixed media (e.g. crayons, spray paint, etc.) works are a hybrid of pop and street art. His War of Art: Make Fun Not War series features soldiers of mass creation. The artist combines classic nostalgic tropes, harkening back to the simplicity of childhood. As an elementary school teacher, Hauben is regularly exposed to the unfettered creativity of youth, a time when soldiers are toys, an outlet to express creativity, have fun, and unleash the imagination—not a vehicle for destruction. 

Unlike a traditional print, each Art of War piece is unique, with spray paint and/or dripped crayon wax precisely applied by hand. Because each piece is unique, please note that the design of crayon/paint is different.

Each piece is 17"x22" unframed, and includes a frame. (See frame section for framing dimensions)

Materials: High quality white wood frames. Piece is float mounted on top of a mat board. We selected a float mount vs. a traditional mount that sits on top of the piece, so you can see the edges of the piece. We find this adds a richness to the work.

Each frame is custom-cut and assembled by hand to match your piece. Hanging hardware is included.

Dimensions: The frame is .75" thick. The framed piece is ~29"x24". Frames may differ from those pictured.

Crayon and/or spray paint are applied by hand to each soldier image, making each piece unique. Soldiers are printed with giclee, a high quality printing method.
