Curator's Notes

Richa Kashelkar’s work explores the intersection of beauty and mystery. Her subjects are often featured amidst nature and are infused with an heir of peace, solitude, or longing. Rischa wants the viewer to insert their own story into a painting, rather than provide a pre-determined narrative. It’s one of the reasons a lot of her brush strokes have a not so finished look and why she often infuses digital illustration into hand painted pieces. As she puts it: “Many of my pieces have an emphasis on a gouache/oil aesthetic. I love how opaque and bold the colors are that get applied in it.
